The tick-tock of his alarm clock sounded lonelily on his nightstand, while the luminous moonlight peered past the curtains into his room. He laid in his bed, holding onto his sheets as he has done many nights before, staring down, not at the gentle silvery light that had poured into the room, but at the shadows that overtaken the features of his room. He shivers beneath his warm covers, his stuffed animals turned to shadowy and faceless figures, the corners of his room into endless dark voids, and the leafless tree beyond his window reaching in with its dark arms, sinister and inhibiting the moon’s efforts to brighten the room.
